GoodNotes & Notability stickers from a sheet

You have a sticker sheet — a scan, a photo, a page from a kit — and you want the stickers on it to work in your planner one at a time. Here is what the apps actually need, and the shortest way to get there.

What the apps need

One thing above all: a transparent PNG. GoodNotes and Notability both place images exactly as they are. A JPEG, or a PNG that still has its white background, appears as a white rectangle with a sticker printed on it. Transparency is the difference between an image and a sticker.

The second thing is one file per sticker. A sheet is one image; the apps have no idea it contains twenty stickers. Each one needs to be cut out into its own file before it can be placed, resized and reused on its own.

What size to export

Neither app enforces a size, so the honest answer is: it depends on how big you place them. Sellers on Etsy commonly ship planner stickers at 1000–2000 pixels on the long side, which stays crisp when you zoom into a page. 512 pixels is enough for small decorative stickers, and it is the fixed standard for Telegram and WhatsApp packs. Resolution in DPI is irrelevant on screen — 72 to 150 is fine; it only matters if you print.

What matters more than the number is that every sticker in a set uses the same canvas. Apps place each image at its own pixel size, so a set exported at mixed sizes lands on the page at mixed sizes and never looks like a set. Adding them to GoodNotes

  1. Open the Elements tool in GoodNotes 6 and choose Import from…. Pick the PNG files from the Files app or your photo library. They are saved into a collection.
  2. Collections are reusable across every notebook, so import a set once and it is there whenever you want it.
  3. Already have a sticker on a page? Select it with the Lasso tool and choose Add Element. If the only option shown is “Take Screenshot”, open the Lasso tool’s settings and turn on Images.

Adding them to Notability

  1. Tap the + button and choose the image from your photo library. Transparency is kept.
  2. For files that are not in Photos, open the Files app alongside Notability in Split View and drag PNGs directly onto the page.

Getting from a sheet to the files

Cutting twenty stickers out by hand — lasso, crop, remove background, export, repeat — is the part that puts people off.
